JOIN THE CAPTURING THE SENSES – SUMMER SCHOOL 2025
As creatives in busy environments, we are constantly exposed to noise. To cope, we develop strategies to calm our minds—seeking nature, adopting mindful habits, or using apps to reset our sensory systems. While stepping back from the noise is necessary, what happens when we look more closely at our surroundings instead of tuning them out? How does urban noise influence our creative work?
In this summer school, we invite students to explore how sensory perception shapes creativity. Can the city’s noise become a source of inspiration? How do we experience our environment when we take the time to focus on our senses? What strategies can we develop to translate these observations into creative expression? And how can we combine psychology, neuro-art, and creative techniques to make sense of our sensory input?
Over the course of a week in Vilnius, you will step away from digital distractions and immerse yourself in the urban environment. Through interdisciplinary workshops and guided exercises, you will sharpen your perception and experiment with new ways of capturing sensory experiences. Working in interdisciplinary teams with students from Switzerland and Lithuania, you will develop creative responses, transforming your observations into visual artefacts using a variety of materials.
Tutors from diverse creative backgrounds will provide insights and guidance, helping you refine your ideas and expand your artistic practice. The results of the summer school will be exhibited at SODAS 2123 and published on the Capturing the Senses website.
